What to carry into a first sitting
The office does not need a perfect ledger. It needs the papers that stop the conversation from guessing.
Bring the argument, not a performance
Couples sometimes spend the week before a sitting building a tidy budget they have never lived. The sitting then describes a household that does not exist, and the letter afterwards is useless. Come with the notebook you already use, even if the totals are wrong.
If you have no notebook, a page of rough monthly figures in pencil is enough. Exact baht can be mended. A fictional month cannot.
Papers that earn their place
Pay slips for the last two months, or a note of takings if the work is cash. A list of debts: who is owed, what is paid each month, and what the money bought. Savings books the couple is willing to mention. The amount usually sent to parents.
Leave the national identity card in your bag unless the office asks for a name spelling. The sitting is not an account opening. Gold that one partner has not disclosed will come up only if that partner raises it; the questionnaire asks, and a surprise in the room is harder than a sentence at home the night before.
Both people, and one question
Joint money needs both partners in the chairs. If one of you cannot come, ask the office for another date. A sitting with a messenger usually produces a plan the absent person did not agree.
Bring one question you actually want answered. Not a general hope to be better with money. A question like whether the pickup should be cleared before any house amount is saved, or whether tutoring can stay if the parents' envelope stays. One sharp question gives the hour a spine.
What stays at home
Children do not need to sit through the bills. Passwords, PIN numbers, and online banking codes stay at home. The office will never ask for them.
If the papers feel embarrassing, bring them anyway and say so at the start. The planner has read cooperative files for years. A thin week, a private gold book, or a debt to a relative is ordinary material for the work, not a confession.
If the situation in the piece is close to your own household, the office can say which engagement fits. A first sitting is the ordinary way to find out.
